I spend the entire day napping and pouting over having the Fox siblings catch me looking like I’d been playing on a chocolate sauce slip and slide. After a good night’s sleep, I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.

Even though it was Logan’s idea for me to test my skills as a personal stylist, I can’t deny how perfect it is for me. Making people look their best is something I’m passionate about, and it’s one of my rare natural talents.

Sam is the one who is good at everything she tries. Beauty and fashion are the only areas that I thrive in. I might as well embrace that singular skill and see where it takes me. It’s bound to be better than spending my days bored out of my mind at the bank.

Although I’m not as prepared as I’d like to be for this consultation with Trish, I have some ideas that I want to toss her way, and I’m excited to use this meeting to help her look and feel her best.

After grabbing my huge purse, I jog outside––hoping that Sam got my text about needing the car today. She and Parker must have dropped it off earlier this morning because it’s sitting in the parking lot waiting for me.

I plug Trish’s address into my phone’s GPS and try not to let my nerves take over as I jiggle my fingers on the steering wheel and follow the phone’s verbal directions.

Trish’s house is on the small side, but the pumpkins on each porch step and the cornucopia wreath hanging on the front door make the place look friendly and inviting.

After I ring the doorbell, a dog barks and a child begins crying. Trish answers the door with one kid in her arms and another pulling on her pants leg. She looks harried and overworked.

Giving her a warm smile, I offer, “If this is a bad time, we can reschedule.”

She blows her hair up off her forehead before answering, “It’s always a bad time. Logan was going to come watch the kids, but he got called in for a job interview at the high school, so he’s running late.”

“For the coaching position?” I ask, unable to keep the surprise and delight out of my tone.

At her nod, I say, “Wow, that was fast. I hope he gets it.”

“Me too,” she agrees as she ushers me inside her obviously lived-in home. Indicating the strewn toys, she says, “Sorry about the mess.”

“You have a lot going on. In fact, I’m not sure how you’re able to get any time to yourself.”

“Time to myself––what’s that?” The woman asks, only half-joking.

I look around her home, which is bursting at the seams with noisy children, an excited dog, and colorful toys. The house is chaotic and obviously filled with love.

For the first time in my life, I crave this kind of happy, loud family of my own.

I had always pictured myself married, but childless. My husband and I could travel, eat in fabulous restaurants, and enjoy all of the finer things in life.
